Summary/Purpose
This position is responsible for the development, design, and implementation of controls systems for custom automated machines and robot cells developed by the Mechatronics Group.  A person filling this job contributes significantly to the ability of the Mechatronics Group to develop, design, deliver and support unique manufacturing equipment for JTEKT North America facilities worldwide.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
• Support Mechatronics team in the development and design of controls systems for automated custom machines and robot cells used in the manufacturing of JTEKT North America products.
• Help select, specify, and size electrical devices, including PLC, motion control, automation (robots), and data acquisition components.
• Develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, bill of materials, and software diagrams.
• Develop, implement, and troubleshoot controls & automation software (PLC, robot systems, operator interfaces, vision systems, etc.)
• Provide plant support as needed, both remotely and on-site, for equipment built by the Mechatronics Group
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to develop and read/understand electrical schematics
• Experience with the development, implementation, troubleshooting of controls software (PLC, CNC, OIT)
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems with automated equipment
• Familiarity with the control of automated equipment
Other Desirable Skills and Experience
• Knowledge of servo/stepper motor systems, motion control, robots, data acquisition systems
• Knowledge and experience with non-destructive testing technologies (e.g., eddy current, vision)
• Familiarity with AutoCAD/EPLAN
Education and Experience:
• Electrical engineering degree (BSEE or MSEE)
• 5+ years’ experience with the design of electrical and controls for automated equipment
• 5+ years’ experience with the development, implementation, troubleshooting of controls software (PLC, CNC, OIT)

• The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
• Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 10% of time.
