Diagnoses and troubleshoots machines to determine issues.  Evaluates options for repair or replacement. Makes necessary repairs to get equipment back into running order.  Must have knowledge of both small engines, tractors and larger motors, both gasoline and diesel.  Must have knowledge of electrical systems, hydraulics, 2 cycle engines, etc.Evaluates equipment to determine when mower adjustments are needed. Checks greens mowers daily during the growing season.  Checks all mowers on a regular basis to see if adjustments are needed.Completes mower sharpening on a regular basis to ensure equipment is performing as needed.  Uses golf course grinder to sharpen reels and bedknives.  Backlaps when needed            to keep mowers cutting to the needed requirements.Maintains inventory of critical parts  and ensures that the golf operation has all needed repair parts on hand.  Works with suppliers to keep parts in stock.  Assists with equipment procurement process including soliciting bids, arranging demonstrator models, etc.  Uses computer skills to track purchases and budget status. Uses Workday to record all purchases.Maintains clean shop area by daily cleaning and proper storing of tools and parts.In addition to the golf course equipment, the equipment manager will also repair and maintain the equipment to be used for the REK practice facility and the driving range.  Currently this is two walk mowers and multiple maintenance vehicles / golf carts plus the ball picker.Assists with routine golf course maintenance work by:Mowing greens, tees, fairways, and roughsAssisting with other areas of golf course maintenance as neededIs available to work on some weekends as directed by the golf course superintendentFollows safety procedures.Completes performance review process with supervisor/employees to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals.Communicates openly and recognizes contributions of co-workers and supervisor.Pursues professional development to keep pace with demands for services and information; including maintaining up to date information about the department and university.Personal cell phone is required (possible call backs and emergencies)Relationships:Continuous contact with members of own work unit and immediate supervisor.  Frequent interaction with vendors, suppliers, and others in the community associated with the golf course.Responsibility for Final Decisions:Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps.  Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures.Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard check or crosscheck. Reports To:    Golf Course SuperintendentWork is performed independently, within the Automotive Shop on routine work, non-routine issues or questions are referred to the supervisor.Education/Skill Requirements: High School graduate with 5 plus years experience in related fieldAbility to read and understand instructions for the use of machinery and equipmentValid S. C.
