Position Title: Medical Coordinator
Reporting Relationship: Lead Clinician
Position Summary
The Medical Coordinator position coordinates medical services and record keeping for persons served in NYAP’s La Jornada program including management of medical intake coordination and medical services delivery, documentation and implementation following policies and standard practice.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Medical Coordinator will perform duties including, but not limited to:
• Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s mission, values, and philosophies
• Coordinate the provision medical assessments for each person served within 48 hours of arrival in compliance with ORR Policies.
• Maintain control and audit of all medical supplies including prescriptions to be administered to minors at the site
• Maintain up to date medical files for clients and provide Foster Parents with clear explanation of any treatment required by minor.
• Responsible for HIPPA protection in medical information regarding the minors.
• Identify and approach alternate healthcare providers in geographic area of program who are willing to partner and provide services.
• Ensure all needs for medical treatment for illnesses and/or injuries are met.
• Assure the administration and implementation of physician orders, and when appropriate, educate the appropriate staff on administering medication and/or treatment as needed.
• Assure all documentation and required record keeping is completed in a timely manner.
• Work in collaboration with Case Managers to schedule and coordinate examinations by the consulting physician for each child.
• Prepare Treatment Authorization Request (TAR) prior to appointments and follow up after approval to coordinate service with Healthcare provider.
• Assure the program’s compliance with Medical Policies and Procedures as well as Standing Orders
• Maintain Red Cross CPR/First Aid Trainer’s Certification.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral science, human services, social service fields or business administration or management.
• Experience in Pediatrics medical services coordination.
• Understanding of Medicare reimbursement codes
• Must be able to maintain compliance with attending agency required training programs.
• Supervision experience
• Bilingual English/Spanish fluency
• Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, automotive insurance and a good driving record.
• Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury liability.
• Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, internet search, people management programs, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
OTHER SKILLS
• Reliable transportation with a safe driving record.
• Reliable, working telephone.
• Experience working with diverse groups.
