GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
As a teacher, the individual in this position is responsible for planning and providing for appropriate learning experiences for students. Creates an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders. Designs student assessments, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, and analyzes assessment data. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
The individual in this position is also responsible for the co-curricular program at the school, including but not limited to athletic and non-athletic activities. Provides resources to the organizations and coordinates their activities to ensure that a well-rounded program is offered to the student body.
This is an 11-month position, teaching two blocks per semester.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions - Teacher:
• Using research-based instructional strategies, instructs students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using appropriate instructional technology and other materials to supplement presentations.
• Designs engaging and rigorous instructional experiences following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
• Delivers instruction and provides growth-producing feedback.
• Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
• Assigns lessons and provides feedback on formative assessments.
• Administers assessments and records results to determine student progress. Shares results with students and parents to determine next steps in instruction.
• Maintains attendance and grade records.
• Maintains a positive classroom environment through the use of effective classroom management techniques.
• Communicates effectively with parents to discuss student progress and problems.
• Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
• Performs related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting courses of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems.
• Complies with school and school board policies and regulations.
• Demonstrates professional growth.
• Completes required records and reports promptly and accurately.
• Uses instructional and planning time effectively.
• Assumes responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
• Assumes responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to his/her care.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the subject being taught.
• Uses out-of-class assignments, when appropriate, to support the instructional objectives.
Essential Functions - High School Student Activities Administrator:
• Schedules coaches’ meetings with the Division Activities Coordinator to explain local and state rules and regulations, working with the computer support technician to ensure all technology is working properly.
• Collects and submits all interscholastic eligibility to the Division Activities Coordinator.
• Submits work orders for climate control for athletic or extracurricular activities.
• Serves as the point of contact for all fine arts performances and events (elementary/middle/high) hosted at the high school.
• Ensures that staff adhere to all VHSL, Region and Piedmont district policies and regulations.
• Collaborates with the Division Activities Coordinator to prepare and disseminate coaches' handbooks and provide coaching orientations by sports seasons.
• Staffs and manages the operations of all home activities and events. Staffing includes support personnel, security, game officials and custodial support.
• Establishes and maintains crowd control procedures for all events to ensure proper enjoyment and safety of all spectators and participants.
• Supports high school graduation planning.
• Submits paperwork for athletic events, including game schedules, payment of support personnel, school resource officers, officials, gate receipts, ticket inventory and control sheets, interscholastic inventory, and budgets to the Division Activities Coordinator.
• Secures transportation for all school activities and prepares necessary paperwork.
• Coordinates or performs ground services for field preparations.
• Administers/implements preseason interscholastic meetings with athletes and parents in conjunction with the Division Activities Coordinator.
• Schedules and maintains athletic physical documents/records.
• Orders and maintains an inventory for uniforms, medical supplies, and equipment for all interscholastic activities.
• Maintains correspondence with students, faculty/staff, parents, and community through the division’s communication platforms.
• Organizes and implements recognition programs and assemblies for the student body and faculty/staff.
• In collaboration with the Division Activities Coordinator, serves as a liaison for athletic and non-athletic parent and booster groups.
• Introduces and trains new teachers regarding the student activities program.
• Coordinates logistical aspects of planned events by school administration.
• Maintains master event calendar for school and community use.
• Coordinates student events and activities as directed by the building administrator.
• Assists in organizing and distributing pictures for classes, clubs, athletics, music, faculty, and teacher of the year.
• Coordinates the use of school bulletin boards and showcases.
• Meets with various product vendors for fundraising opportunities or athletic equipment needs.
• Supervises requests for all club projects and fundraisers.
Additional Duties:
• Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
• Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university. Must have or be eligible for an appropriate teaching license from the Virginia Department of Education.
• Considerable e xperience as a coach and/or adviser.
• Or an equivalent level of education and experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment.
• Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
• Skill in the use of computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
• Ability to present information clearly and concisely in verbal and written form.
• Ability to serve as a liaison between various athletic and academic teams, clubs, the community, parents, school system administrators, vendors, media, and other special interests groups.
• Ability to multitask while coordinating several activities simultaneously.
• Ability to develop and facilitate a co-curricular program that supports student achievement and the Standards of Learning.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other District employees and the general public.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Work Environment :
