Respiratory Therapist I - Critical Care Transport
Expected Starting Salary Range: 28.15 - 35.98
SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Responsible for respiratory therapy duties including oxygen administration, application of ventilators, initiation, assessment of, and recommendations for respiratory care services including diagnostic studies under physician supervision.
SCOPE: To function as a professional respiratory therapist and able to apply theoretical knowledge to the care of infant child; adolescent and adult patients and clients. To demonstrate competence in Respiratory Care skills; problem solving; critical thinking and prioritization. To recognize the need for professional growth and to take appropriate steps towards meeting educational needs.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
·Assessment
Assesses patients, clients and families and recognizes normal parameters, deviations and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental and behavioral status as it relates to cardio-pulmonary needs using a family centered approach to care, plans and prioritizes care to meet patient, client and family needs, Collects clinical data, utilizes decision trees and guidelines. Matches formal knowledge with clinical events to make appropriate decisions.
·Clinical Judgment
Demonstrates competence in the implementation of the technical skills required for the care of the patients, clients and families according to CCHMC policies, procedures and standards. Demonstrate compliance with established practices in documentation of care Identifies goals and outcomes for health with the patient, client and family. Directs interventions towards the attainment of goals and outcomes as it relates to cardio pulmonary health. Evaluates effectiveness of care. Demonstrates critical thinking by making appropriate care decisions and relating that information to the healthcare team. Implement the standards of the patient care and access. Facilitates patient and family learning by providing structured education based upon the Plan of Care and patient and family needs.
·Evidence Based Practice and Research
Demonstrate awareness of the value of research and evidence based practice in respiratory care. Utilizes the knowledge to implement researched-based practice developed by others.
·Collaboration with Health Care Team
Works on behalf of patient and family; aware of ethical conflicts and issues that may surface; Represents the needs of the patient and family to the healthcare team as it relates to cardiopulmonary issues; contributes and is receptive to the overall knowledge of the interdisciplinary team in meetings and rounds. Supports divisional leadership initiatives. Participates in the shared governance structure at the point of care as a member of unit based or divisional councils/ committees or by contributing to shared governance decision making (reading minutes, giving feedback and implementing council decisions).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
·Associate's degree in related field or equivalent
· 0 - 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline
· RT License, Registered RT, Graduate of CoARC approved respiratory care program
Preferred:
2 years of critical care experience in a pediatric setting
