GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The Senior Director of Alternative Programs and Student Accountability leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of alternative education programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of students within the division. This role is pivotal in creating personalized learning environments that support academic success and personal growth. This position oversees the implementation of division-wide student discipline strategies, ensuring that these are effectively integrated across all education settings to promote positive behavioral outcomes and a supportive educational climate.  The Senior Director of Alternative Programs and Student Accountability reports to the Chief Instructional and Administrative Officer.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Design, implement, and oversee alternative education programs that provide flexible, inclusive, and student-centered educational options. Tailor programs to support students who may benefit from non-traditional educational settings, including those at risk of academic failure.
Utilize innovative practices and emerging technologies, including strategic use of artificial intelligence, to enhance teaching and learning within alternative programs. Ensure technology integration supports personalized learning and operational efficiency.
Implement a discipline strategy focused on transforming student behavior. Develop division-wide guidelines and protocols for managing behavioral issues, tailored to the unique needs of students in alternative education programs. Establish a system for consistent monitoring and reporting of discipline issues to track trends and intervention effectiveness.
Continuously assess the effectiveness of alternative education programs using data-driven approaches. Adjust programs based on feedback and outcomes to ensure they meet student needs and division goals.
Engage with parents, community groups, and educational leaders to promote the benefits of alternative education. Advocate for necessary resources and support to enhance program offerings and student outcomes.
Develop policies and procedures that govern alternative education programs, ensuring compliance with educational standards and legal requirements. Stay informed about educational policies and trends to keep programs relevant and effective.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Design and lead strategies to improve student discipline and implement division-wide educational reforms.
Leads the Discipline Review Committee.
Provide direction and vision for Programs, aligning them with the division’s goals.
Monitors alternative program Directors to ensure completion of classroom observations and evaluations of staff.
Foster collaboration with site leaders and division colleagues to close achievement gaps and prepare students for future opportunities.
Oversee the development of staff and instructional schedules, ensuring they meet state requirements and division policies.
Manage school budget planning and monitor expenditures.
Coordinate with staffing teams to optimize resource distribution and compliance.
Develop communication guidelines for school publications and ensure adherence to Board of Education policies.
Maintain compliance with state and federal educational standards
Strengthen community partnerships and expand internship opportunities.
Create and implement equitable student discipline policies, aiming to reduce suspensions and expulsions, while addressing the root causes of behavioral issues and maintaining a safe and orderly environment for all students.
Serve as a division liaison in community and state-level forums.
Supervises and conducts personnel administration duties for direct subordinates, evaluating, assigning special duties, monitoring attendance and travel reports, and granting leave.
Serve as Administrator support in all schools as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Evaluate program directors and other administrators as assigned. Direct reports include but are not limited to the Directors of Noel C. Taylor Learning Academy and Forest Park.
Follows through on other duties as assigned.
The duties of the Senior Director of Alternative Programs and Student Accountability will have been satisfactorily performed when the evaluation of this person is at standard or above on the applicable Performance Appraisal Criteria.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in educational leadership. Doctorate in Educational Administration or PhD preferred. A postgraduate professional license endorsed in Administration and Supervision is required. Minimum five years of experience as a principal or central office administration.  Experience as a Principal is highly recommended and preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORMESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, adding machines, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, newsletters, schedules, manuals, invoices, requisitions, menus, recipes, journals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, procedures, charts, surveys, articles, bid specifications, brochures, news releases, handbooks, budgets, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, accounting and marketing terminology.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of algebra and geometry.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)  Must be able to communicate via telephone.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum design, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of educational leadership and management, including supervisory practices and techniques.
