Job Description
The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) is seeking applications from individuals interested in becoming Senior Director of Educational Affairs. Working in close collaboration with all curricular teams and reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, the Director will provide the transformational leadership that facilitates collaboration and operational improvements for current and future initiatives across diverse cross-functional teams at VTCSOM. The Senior Director will define the needs and improvements for current education initiatives, provide direction and planning, and contribute to the strategy for future initiatives of the education mission at VTCSOM. As the medical school pursues the next growth phase of curricular evolution and accreditation review, the Senior Director will be an effective leader who can inspire team members within medical education and facilitate positive collaborations across all units at VTCSOM and among faculty, staff, and students. The increasing complexity within the medical school will require leadership in the strategic and systems thinking necessary to translate vision into action.
The Director will possess the following skills and characteristics:
 Strong communication skills
 Ability to lead individuals and teams from diverse settings toward common goals
 Ability to collaborate with health system leaders, students, and trainees
 Interest/ability to envision improved states of learning environments, curricula, mentoring, etc.
 Ability to tolerate some degree of ambiguity
 Commitment to the values of VTCSOM, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
 Skills/understanding of systems thinking
Required Qualifications
Master's level degree in related fields and or significant demonstratable experience in finance and budgetary, scholarly work, teaching and mentoring, and professional development.
Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate via various mediums with students, employees, and outside entities of varying backgrounds, education levels, etc.
Strong management experience with the ability to lead teams toward common goals, formulate strategic plans, find workplace efficiencies, and work with education and health system leaders, students, and trainees while fostering a strong sense of collaboration throughout all systems.
