Position Summary
The Department of Plant Pathology at the University of Georgia ( UGA ) seeks to hire a Senior Research Associate to conduct research and support academic programs at the Tifton campus. This is a high-level research staff position that assumes an advanced level of performance and management of duties in a research setting.
Major responsibilities include:
• Research (75%): Develop a program on food safety risk assessment in specialty crops across harvest, processing, storage, and packaging. Evaluate pre-harvest practices that will reduce contamination with both plant and food-borne pathogens. Collaborate with and complement food safety specialists across the CAES to develop and deliver technologies to stakeholders. Contribute to journal publications, supervise undergraduate students, serve on grant proposals as a co-PI or collaborator.
• Academic Support (25%): Assist Plant Pathology instructors in Athens and Griffin with laboratory sections of their courses at the Tifton Campus and coordinate the Tifton Teaching Assistants for those labs.

• Technical expertise in both plant pathology and food microbiology as evidenced by journal publications
• Project coordination and management
• Experimental design, data analysis, data interpretation and visualization
• Familiarity with genetic diversity and population structure analysis and associated software platforms
