Job Description
Job Overview:
This position provides leadership and supervision for phlebotomists stationed in hospitals, physician's offices, at draw sites, and/or working at health fairs. This position hires, schedules, trains, provides performance counseling and appraisals, and terminates. This position uses a team approach to work with the Lab's managers and supervisors as well as other departments to develop processes and procedures, to establish efficient workflow and use of resources, to resolve issues, to promote a high level of employee morale, and to ensure a high level of satisfaction with TriHealth's lab services. This position reviews the work of the phlebotomists to ensure accuracy and quality and to ensure employee adherence to all rules, regulations, standards, and policies, including CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, HIPPA, and other regulatory agencies as well as TriHealth's Corporate Compliance Plan.
Job Requirements:
Graduate of an approved technical, professional, or vocational program in Allied Health
Medical technology with training in phlebotomy and management knowledge
Certified Phlebotomist
Drivers License
Phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques for all age groups -- adult, geriatric, and pediatric
Laboratory terminology
Data entry
Strong leadership
Customer service and verbal and written communication skills
3-4 years experience Technical Allied Health
Job Responsibilities:
Hires, orients, schedules, trains, and supervises off-site phlebotomy staff. Edits and approves employee time records. Conducts annual performance appraisals. Provides employee recognition.
Reviews staff's work for accuracy. Troubleshoots, resolves, and documents issues. Provides performance counseling.
Conducts competency testing. Prepares QA reports. Uses a team approach with management to recommend/implement process improvements. Writes and maintains procedures. Helps staff adapt positively to changes.
Schedules staff to ensure phlebotomy services are delivered at all times. Remains available by cell phone 24/7 to accept calls from phlebotomists who are unable to report for work due to illness, etc. Arranges for coverage.
Determines phlebotomy needs and arranges for staffing. Organizes supplies and requisitions. Ensures that phlebotomists arrive on time. Communicates tests and anticipated volumes to lab sections.
Conducts activities and maintains procedures and records required for fire drills, emergency evacuation, disaster drills, biohazardous waste removal, and other requirements to meet The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
