Salary: Uncertified officer salary $47,107; Certified officer salary $49,462

General Description
The purpose of this position performs uniform patrol duties including responding to various types of calls, patrolling assigned areas, acting as field training officer, performing undercover investigative operations, working as a jailor, serving warrants, and performing other general law enforcement duties.
This position works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Duties And Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
• Responds to various types of calls including house checks, fire calls, alarms, armed robberies, prisoner transports, weapon accidents, traffic control, abandoned vehicles, vehicle violators, school crossings, hazardous materials checks, nuisance calls, deceit incidents, drunks, malicious damage, missing persons, telephone incidents, sexual offenses, vice/intoxicant violations, burglaries, assaults, death, etc.
• Patrols assigned areas which involves driving patrol vehicle, investigating suspicious situations, serving traffic tickets, assisting the general public, conducting bank escorts, surveying areas for crimes, administering first aid, and responding to any calls.
• Handles community policing which involves setting up meetings with businesses, performing security checks, working on crime prevention, and directing the public to organizations such as Department of Social Services, DYS, Meals on Wheels, counseling, etc.
• Conducts Problem oriented policing projects.
• Works as jailor as necessary which involves monitoring jail activities, monitoring visitors, providing jailers with supplies and tools, etc.
• Appears in City court, general sessions, and family court as needed.
• May patrol on bike for crime prevention and reduction of drug activities; patrols downtown and shopping areas.
• Receives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits a variety of reports and records including codes, traffic tickets, accident reports, warrants, surveys, subpoenas, waivers of rights, evidence forms, missing person’s report, juvenile referral forms, timesheets, case file sheets, criminal history requests, court releases, laboratory analyses, various lists and logs, and general office correspondence.
• Refers to policy and procedure manuals, data, codes/laws/regulations, publications and reference texts, statutes, directories, maps, etc.
• Utilizes various types of equipment and machinery such as patrol car, bicycle, radar, multi-channel radio, copier, telephone, breathalyzer, computer, and shotgun, various police supplies and equipment, and general office supplies.
• Performs related work as required.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Requires high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must hold required law enforcement certifications. Must possess a valid state issued drivers’ license.
Physical Demands
• Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, dancing, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Special Certifications And Licenses
• Requires class 1 certification as a law enforcement officer through SCCJA.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
