Intern: Continuous Improvement (Fall 2024)

What You Will Do
The internship role provides students with the opportunity to apply academic knowledge and skills in a manufacturing environment, and to support/promote the graduate's career goals through interaction with our professionals. Interns participate in professional activities for Volvo New River Valley Plant by working on practical, innovative and important projects. This Internship provides structured learning experiences where interns and our professional teams work together on projects within their selected organization. The internship allows students to integrate knowledge and skills in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the student and Volvo New River Valley Plant.
The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Continuous Improvement department and to provide learning opportunities for Engineering or Business-related fields of study.
The position requires a candidate that has a continuous improvement mind set and enjoys working on problem solving.

What’s in it for you?
The student will be involved in data collection, data analysis and root cause problem solving activities utilizing 5 why and 4m problem solving methodologies and work in cross functional teams to help resolve issues in the manufacturing process.
The position will give the student opportunities to learn and apply lean manufacturing principals within the organization and the exposure to working in a manufacturing environment.
The student will be involved in Standard Operating Procedures and Audit reviews of them.
The position will be required to perform a Kaizen as part of the internship to show the results of the assigned projects and gained benefits. This Kaizen will be presented to upper-level management and gives the opportunity for the student to show their projects and interfacing with the management team.
Networking with the Professionals at the plant and the other interns.
The position will gain experience by working with Volvo Continuous Improvement systems.
Gain experience in planning and execution of task both individually and in team environments.
Create power point presentations for communication of new project ideas and reports.
Educational Requirements
• Must have experience in EXCEL, MS Word, Power Point, and preference given to those with Power BI experience.
• Applicants must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Engineering or Business, or similar field of study, at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship
• Student must have a minimum GPA of 2.75
• Fall interns may work up to 30 hours per week

The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
