Automation & Controls Engineer
Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking an Automation & Controls Engineer to join our Manufacturing Engineering team at our new Construction Equipment facility in Salina, KS.
This position is responsible for day-to-day production support activities including but not limited to working with the operations group to identify and implement systems to help control the manufacturing processes. This role also leads the implementation of innovative technologies to help eliminate manufacturing defects and reduce cost. This position requires a hands-on person with an aptitude for problem solving and the ability to thrive in a production environment.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
• Lead collaborative discussions between leadership and key stakeholders to determine automation capabilities and goals
• Design and implement automated systems for use in diverse manufacturing and production environments
• Create and establish connections between information inputs, controllers and outputs
• Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards for assigned projects
• Estimate project timelines, staffing requirements for project support, and related costs to provide information for management decisions
• Recommend methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities through use of technology and lean manufacturing principles
• Support existing automation technology with component and process upgrades
• Assist in troubleshooting for defects or errors in technology
• Follow all Great Plains policies and OSHA safety regulations and wears prescribed safety and protective equipment.
• Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.
Preferred Skills And Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from four-year college or university; Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with machine control systems in a manufacturing setting, or combination of experience and education
• Knowledge of process control systems, including Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, electrical drives, temperature, flow and pressure controls
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced production environment
• Ability to excel in a team-oriented environment
