Torque Tooling Support Engineer
As a Torque Tooling Support Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in managing torque tooling projects from inception to execution. This position requires a proactive approach to evaluate tooling requirements, develop RFQs, and oversee end-to-end projects with tooling vendors. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure the best tooling solutions are implemented for various applications. Additionally, you will contribute to product build support, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Project management of torque tooling needs, including evaluation of requirements and development of RFQs.
• End-to-end management of torque tooling projects with tooling vendors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
• Initiation of internal reviews of proposed tooling solutions with key stakeholders.
• Testing and validation of selected tooling solutions through modeling and/or prototype or production environments.
• Organization of inbound tools and coordination of industrialization processes.
• Identification and management of support needed for successful tooling implementations, including industrialization, infrastructure, IT services, and vendor support.
• Forecasting lead times compared to deadlines to ensure timely project completion.
• Providing product build support and troubleshooting for torque tooling.
• Cooperating with standards, processes, and project deliverables.
• Utilizing 3D CAD Experience (Creo Parametric, Creo View, Catia, AutoCAD, etc.) to evaluate fastener location and tool access.
• Implementing advanced manufacturing solutions to support operational needs.
• Participating in all pillars of Volvo Production System (VPS) and leading continuous improvement activities.
• Mentoring and educating production support personnel with equipment training.
• Actively engaging in global tooling and equipment forums and representing the NRV plant as an expert.
• Supporting initiatives in a pilot plant environment to implement world-class tooling and lean assembly processes.
• Participating in global network meetings with in-depth knowledge of tooling and equipment.
• Establishing and maintaining optimum tooling and equipment standards and best practices.
• Promoting manufacturing safety, ergonomics, and efficiency through tooling and equipment implementation.
• Developing cost-saving proposals and improving productivity.
Minimum Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science Field with 2 Years of Tooling & Equipment Experience
• OR Associates Degree in Mechanical Design/Engineering Field with 4 Years of Tooling & Equipment Experience
• Proven experience in taking initiative, driving improvements, taking additional responsibilities, thinking outside the box, going the extra mile.
Other Requirements:
• Full-time, on-site support at Volvo Group Truck Operations-Dublin, VA
• Occasional overtime as needed.
Compensation: $85,000+
