What You Will Be Doing
Our Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) (with focus on supplier product/process change management) team is a dedicated group responsible for ensuring that Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) has adequate quality after supplier product and process changes. Our function focuses on parts that are in serial production. The SQE also works to ensure process improvements for parts having quality issues stemming from parts in the field.
As an SQE you will support purchasing, operations, and engineering teams with quality and part change notifications within your area. You will provide quality assurance expertise to buyers and suppliers while operating as an important link between purchasing and the plants. This role can be based out of the Greensboro NC (preferred), Hagerstown MD, Allentown PA, Dublin VA, or Roanoke VA areas, and reports to the Head of Supplier Quality in Plant for Mack Lehigh Valley Operations (LVO).
Specific Responsibilities
• Coordinate Supplier Performance Management Reviews
• Participate in cross-functional root cause analysis activities
• Daily contacts with suppliers regarding supplier quality related issues
• Verify, evaluate and approve action plans from suppliers
• On site reviews that identify suppliers’ manufacturing risks and improvement areas
• Perform Process Audit at suppliers and drive suppliers to close identified gaps
• Report and follow up deviations for serial production parts, including initiating, following up, and closing deviation report requests. Take appropriate actions at suppliers to prevent recurrence.
• Review the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documents related to supplier product and process change notifications
• Coordinate necessary supplier quality improvement activities with colleagues at other Volvo plants globally
• Represent Purchasing in local operations meetings, e.g., Gemba, Task Force teams, Shoki-Ryudo, etc.
• Utilize Firewalls, Supplier Quality Performance Tracking, etc. as needed to ensure quality from the suppliers
• Participate in handover activities related to parts after product and process changes
• Ensure supplier submission of Part/Process Change Notification, if required
• Identify and highlight knowledge gaps in Quality tools, e.g., 8D, Root Cause Analysis, 5W2H, etc.
• Collect and evaluate experience and knowledge from overall business, lessons learned, to avoid repeated mistakes or failures
• Monitor and Confirm Supplier Deviations related to part and process changes
• Identify root causes of crises through deep dive in problem solving
• Follow up on containment, root cause, and corrective action for field quality and engineering change related issues
What We Are Looking For
• 5+ years of technical experience needed
• Bachelor of Engineering preferred (extensive experience and strong performance can substitute for lack of degree)
• Understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
• Great problem-solving abilities and synthesizing skills
• Good knowledge of automotive quality standards and tools, e.g. ISO/TS 16949
• Good knowledge of Lean concept
• Ability to travel
• Structured with good analytical skills, logical thinking
• Preventive mindset, but also leadership when it comes to problem-solving and taking decisions
• Ability to create networks and to lead cross-functional activities within multi-cultural teams
• Excellent communication and strong project management skills
• Can work with significant independence
• Good English communication skills, both orally and in writing
