Role Summary
The Volvo Trucks North America New River Valley Plant, located adjacent to the Blueridge mountains in Virginia, is looking for key leaders to join its Operations / Logistics team. The Operations Advisor role is a key part of the team taking responsibility for safety, quality, employee engagement and production output for a significant portion of the process.
Core Responsibilities
• Effective leader of people, with track record of strong team development, empowerment and communication within a complex production environment.
• Team mentality supporting cross functional activities including safety, quality, engineering and maintenance.
• Lead and support departmental objectives related to production, logistics and scheduling.
• Responsible for team members development, identifying training, providing training and maintaining competence levels within the business unit.
• Develop effective production / logistics teams, controlling resource allocations, vacations, working times.
• Maintaining compliance and holding team members accountable to company policies and practices.
• Maintain effective and open communications with team members.
• Responsible for ensuring employees are equipped to perform necessary task in their working areas.
• Establish set procedures for the most efficient operations of employees’ area using available manpower to best achieve desired results.
• Monitor employee’s performance to insure productivity.
• Ensure materials have been allocated correctly for production activities.
• Proactivity escalates parts shortages and/or disruptions within the cross functional team in a timely manner.
What You Will Be Doing
The Operations Advisor will plan, direct, and monitor production / logistics rolls and responsibilities, inventory control, storage, shipping and receiving activities. Responsible for developing and implementing materials handling procedures, monitor cost and effectiveness of activities to optimize resources, prioritize spending and achieve volume, timelines, reliability, and safety standards. Oversee the maintenance of inventory control systems that track the status of purchase orders, inventory levels, and production requirements. Interpret inventory requests, production schedules, orders, and other documents. Liaise with functional or operational area managers. Lead, direct, evaluate, and develop a team of professional material handlers.
What Are We Looking For
• BS degree in Logistics, Business or related field of study strongly preferred.
• Four (4) years of logistics/production experience
• Strong knowledge in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required) and other tools used to display and monitor key performance indicators like Power BI.
