Shifts are up to 25 hours per week, between the hours of 8:15-5:00, Monday-Friday. Must be available each week during the dates of June 10 -July 28. (no camp the week of July 4th)
$13-$15/hr
The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is seeking Camp Counselors to assist in supporting the mission to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive play. Serving over 250,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community.
Major Responsibilities
·      Lead and instruct a group of up to 15 students ages 3-12 for a summer camp experience.
·      Maintain responsibility for the safety and health of our campers.
·      Be a good steward of TCMU through interaction with campers, guests, parents, and use of museum materials and spaces.
·      Support the Programs & Community Engagement department as needed through cleaning exhibits, end of day museum reset, program facilitation, prep, possible Outreach opportunities.
·      Deliver collaborative and innovative solutions that result in extraordinary camp experiences.
Predominant Tasks
·      Prepare classroom materials, become familiar with lesson plan and activity content prior to class, supervise campers and lead them through various themed activities, maintaining a tight schedule in order to complete all activities, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for our campers.
·      Implement predetermined safety and behavioral management strategies in the classroom, and document incidents to be handled by camp management, parents, or medical staff accordingly.
·      Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with campers, parents, and other staff, as well as when completing routine duties such as tidying the museum floor.
· Participate in Public Programs or Community Engagement as needed when not needed in a classroom.
Qualifications
·      Able to work up to 25 hours per week between 8:15-5:00, M-F, during the dates of June 10-July 28 (no camp on week of July 4 th )
·      Positive attitude and adaptability to fast-paced environments.
Experience
· Minimum one year experience in customer service, childcare, education, childrens’ programming, or equivalent.
Technical Skills
·      Ability to use a laptop computer for file storage and retrieval, email, chat communication, and scheduling.
Personal Attributes
·      Team player, high energy and ethics, able to flourish in fast paced environment with confidence.
·      Adept at problem solving and versed in using emotional intelligence interacting with colleagues, children, caregivers, and the general public.
