Transportation Safety Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
Transportation Safety Manager (TSM) will be responsible for the oversight, support, management and administration of the transportation safety and compliance programs throughout the J&R Schugel Trucking, Inc. (JRST) network, and thereby responsible for meeting safety and compliance goals for JRST commerci
al fleet.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team to maintain Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance and strive to further safety goals related to transportation within the JRST network.
• Effectively, efficiently, and proactively manage internal DOT compliance processes, thereby eliminating any and all failures to comply with local, state and federal regulations.
• Work effectively with all 3rd Party services utilized for safety and compliance programs.
• Required to assist in the development of driver training materials as assigned or necessary.
• Coordinate, schedule, conduct and document driver training and coaching as required.
• Identify and contribute to company process, policy or program change throughout the JRST network or within individual terminal locations.
• Assist and ensure proper execution and training of all company commercial transportation programs such as; Lytx DriveCam, motorist observation report, company orientation program, etc.
• Oversee and ensure proper adherence to all internal company standards, policies, and procedures such as driver work rules and qualification files, MVR adjudication, criminal background adjudication, pre-hire road testing, post-accident drug & alcohol testing, etc.
• Oversee JRST drug & alcohol testing program.
• Ensure proper hours of service (HOS) data management through use of electronic onboard recording system as necessitated by Company policy, as is necessary, or as directed.
• Communicate and collaborate with members of the organization in person, via telephone and through use of email correspondence and Microsoft Teams.
• Must be willing and able to travel 25% or as needed for back-up orientation instructor at various terminal locations as well as facilitating safety meetings at these other locations.

QUALIFICATIONSEducation
& Experience
• 2 years of experience working for a Motor Carrier in a role related to compliance and safety.
• A post-secondary education is preferred and/or a combination of equivalent education & work experience.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Computer Skills
• Skilled in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• AS/400, Innovative software, and Qualcomm experience preferred.
Other Requirements
• Ability to type a minimum of 35 wpm
• Able to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
• Position requires strong drive to quickly become subject matter expert and primary contact for JRST corporate transportation on all matters DOT.
• Managerial experience in the trucking industry or with a private fleet.
• Knowledge of FMCSRs.
• Ability to work across multiple levels both within the organization and outside.
• Strong critical-thinking, problem solving and analytical skills as well as a strong drive to dig into problems and find solutions.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to work flexible hours based on business needs.
