Strategic Manufacturing Engineer
Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking a proven subject matter expert to join our team as a Strategic Manufacturing Engineer. The strategic manufacturing engineer is responsible for performing analysis, developing solutions necessary to solve capacity issues, reducing cost from operations, and evaluating new technologies to progress the organization. You will work closely with the operations team by using the 10-yr strategic roadmap to identify long term capacity constraints and model equipment/manufacturing capacities across the respective facilities. You will collaborate and work across a matrixed environment and must communicate effectively and concisely at all levels. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Continuous Improvement and Manufacturing Engineering.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
• Analyze our current manufacturing processes and implement new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and affect greater utilization of labor and materials
• Coordinate and collaborate with upper management to align with overall company goals
• Work with operations on concepts to develop new technologies and/or minimize impact to existing equipment
• Continue to grow and learn about new technologies applicable for our processes in order to provide support for manufacturing process technology roadmap
• Proactively identify and appropriately scope areas of opportunities
• Preform analysis and present opportunities and results with facts/data
• Develop action plans and timelines to provide visibility and status updates on projects
• Identify new manufacturing technologies for continuous improvement including automated and semi-automated manufacturing equipment
• Perform initial feasibility on projects and work with financial models to calculate ROIs
• Assist local engineering teams with site analysis and equipment capacity to ensure we meet customer demand
• Further develop our continuous improvement culture by leading hands on projects to help transfer knowledge and skills to our team members
• Day travel up to 50% throughout central Kansas (depending on project requirements)
Preferred Skills And Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university
• Minimum of 5 years' experience working within a regulated manufacturing facility as a part of a professional facilities, engineering, or operations department
• Expert level knowledge and experience in the appropriate technologies inside the ag manufacturing industry
• Strong analytical, organizational, planning skills with broad knowledge in project management
• Excellent problem solver with a proven ability to generate innovative solutions to complex issues
• Analytical problem-solving abilities
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
• Proven experience in key roles for large capital projects
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
• Experience working across multiple facilities
• Proven ability to establish and manage relationships at all levels of the organization; including the most senior levels
• Experience analyzing/reviewing financial models and building project business case justifications
• Experience in leading lean manufacturing initiatives across cross functional teams
• Act as role model, verbally and behaviorally demonstrating skill, enthusiasm, positive problem solving, and commitment to the organization
• Proficiency with CAD tools
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint)
• Agriculture, Construction or Heavy equipment manufacturing experience preferred
