Assistant Principal 2024-25
Assistant Principal- Martinsville City Public Schools- beginning 2024-25 school year
Seeking a qualified Assistant Principal to provide classroom instruction.
Reports to and is evaluated by the Principal.
Length of employment is 240 days (12 months); contract renewable in accordance with School Board policy and the Code of Virginia.
Qualifications
Hold or be eligible for licensure in Virginia with appropriate endorsement
• Demonstrated understanding of standards-based curriculum, research-based instructional strategies, and effective assessment practices
• Ability to model and promote a culture of high expectations for student and staff performance
• Understanding of continuous school improvement and Effective Schools research
• Ability to disaggregate and use data to inform instruction
• Experience working with diverse populations, including students with disabilities, English language learners, students who live in poverty, and students who are gifted
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a collaborative/shared-leadership environment
While no two days are the same, typical job duties for an assistant principal include:
• Enforcing attendance rules
• Meeting with parents to discuss student behavioral or learning problems
• Responding to disciplinary issues
• Coordinating use of school facilities for day-to-day activities and special events
• Working with teachers to develop curriculum standards
• Developing and maintaining school safety procedures
• Evaluating teachers and learning materials to determine areas where improvement is needed
• Coordinating and planning class schedules
• Assessing data such as state standards and test scores
• Coordinating transportation for students
• Hiring and training staff
• Ordering and approving equipment and supply orders
• Maintaining systems for attendance, performance, planning, and other reports
• Supervising grounds and facilities maintenance
• Walking the hallways and checking in on teachers and classrooms
• Responding to emails from teachers, parents and community members
