Process Technician
Location: Salem, VA, US, 24153
Position Type: Professional

What you will do
At Mack Medium Duty (MMD), you will contribute to the transformation of our company, the transport industry and society at large. As the Process Technician, you are responsible for the planning, process definition and roll out. This position will focus on improving methods and providing support during the product development phase. You must embrace fabrication, modification, and evaluation, supporting the assembly activities by:
• Assist engineering with the development, build, and test of prototypes, new products, processes & procedures.
• Participate and contribute on the concept development of new tooling & equipment aimed to support the manufacturing process activities.
• Provide technical support to the existing production process.
• Promote safety and efficiency through the implementation of production process changes.
• Collaborate closely with the logistics department on defining and refining materials placement using Lean principles.
• Collaborate cross-functionally supporting the product development, followed by the industrialization project phases.
• Use lessons learned for production process development to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
• Implement and apply standards and procedures in compliances with plant practice and policies.
• Analyze, evaluate, observe, and investigate critical problems to improve assembly efficiency.
• Identify opportunities for cost improvement through assembly process.
• Establish and maintain accurate working standards using predetermined time tools (MCTM or MOST)
• Influence plant personnel to accomplish efficiency through timing and manpower to meet production goals.
This position will report to the Director of Industrial Engineering & Maintenance.
Your future team
In 2020, Mack established its Roanoke Valley Operations (RVO) manufacturing facility to produce the Mack Medium Duty (MD) Series. This growing facility is dedicated to the assembly of Mack medium-duty vehicles, adding to an already robust product lineup to reach new customers and applications.

Requirements
• Associate degree in Automotive and/or Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of related experience either as an intern or full-time employee
• Knowledgeable in tooling and equipment concept development
• Understanding of Volvo Production System (VPS) and Volvo Operations Concept (VOC)
• Experience with internal logistics to the line and internal material replenishment
• Experience working in cross functional and multicultural teams
• Demonstrated knowledge of heavy equipment and automotive transportation industry preferred
• Lean manufacturing experience
• Occasional travel required
Necessary Technical / functional / language skills
• As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required
• Must be proficient in the MS Office Suite
• Proficient in CAD
• Ability to communicate effectively within a local and international environment.
• Strong understanding of the Volvo Group & Mack businesses are a plus
