We are hiring an Automation and Controls Engineer at the largest pizza plant in the world and home to our famous Red Baron and Tony’s brand frozen pizzas, located in Salina, KS . This critical role is responsible for the technical and functional supervision of electrical and automation and controls systems supporting a state of the art and highly automated food production and distribution center environment.

Responsibilities
• As a subject matter expert, lead the implementation of strategic automation and control projects and for troubleshooting, maintaining, operating, and designing of automated production equipment.
• Develops and implements medium to long-term controls, network architecture, and plant floor strategies to drive efficiency, plant floor productivity, and innovation.
• Helps create campus automation standards for controls logic, HMI screen layout and design.
• Coaches and mentors Controls Technicians to build technical capability and leadership behaviors consistent with our stated goal.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting skills to support plant operations.
• Support the functionality and maintenance of production equipment, controls hardware, and production systems.
What We Need From You
• Bachelor of Science or master’s degree in engineering required (Electrical preferred, Mechanical, Chemical), or equivalent experience. ABET accredited program is a strong preference.
• 5+ years’ experience with Automation and Controls in a Manufacturing setting. 5+ years of engineering experience with a focus on electrical and control systems is required. Experience with manufacturing food and beverage or consumer packaged goods companies is preferred. Experience in plant operations and industrial environments.
• Demonstrates leadership, problem-solving, decision making, troubleshooting, communications, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with a team and influence diverse groups at various levels and across functions.
• Ability to teach the fundamentals of electrical automation and control systems (PLC’s, HMI’s, Robotics, SCADA, VFD’s, Servo Drives).
• Strong aptitude for programming PLC and HMI logic (Allen Bradley preferred).
• Ability to read, interpret, and modify equipment drawings such as: electrical schematics, P&ID’s, and similar using CAD based software.
• Proficient in SCADA development & programming (Ignition).
• Strong knowledge and understanding of the primary codes and safety requirements applicable to controls safety systems, robotics (FANUC and ABB), and power distribution systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot PLCs (Allen Bradley preferred), controls hardware, and wiring at the machine level.
• Strong understanding of low and medium voltage power distribution (480VAC and below) is preferred.
• Must have advanced knowledge of processing, packaging, and facility systems with thorough understanding of food manufacturing, engineering, quality, sanitary design, and research functions.
• Knowledge of Lean Six-Sigma concepts and root cause analysis.
• Demonstrates compliance with USDA, FDA, OSHA, EPA, City and/or State agencies, etc. for both manufacturing processes and building requirements.
