GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts educational assessments and evaluations of students referred for special education evaluation by the School Based Referral Team (SBRT), and of students currently identified under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA). Utilizes diagnostic and norm-referenced evaluation instruments in accordance with test administration protocols to measure student educational achievement and performance. Engages daily with a variety of staff including, but not limited to, special education teachers, case managers, SBRT chairpersons, school administrators, special education supervisors, and school psychologists. Produces professionally written, high-quality evaluation reports for team use in determining student needs. Interprets and communicates student achievement data and technical information orally and in writing, with an emphasis on ensuring clarity and accessibility for uninformed stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL TASKS

• Consults with teachers, school administrators, professional staff, and parents regarding student educational achievement
• Conducts student educational file reviews; ensures an understanding of student evaluation history, current evaluative data, and present levels of student performance and needs
• Administers standardized, norm-referenced, and other types of educational assessment instruments
• Maintains awareness, and makes adjustments, related to testing biases, student response interpretations, and other variables which may compromise valid/reliable evaluation results
• Communicates diagnostic findings to administrators, teachers, parents, and other professionals
• Interprets and discloses, in writing, behavioral observations which may impact educational performance data
• Provides input to the IEP team, as appropriate, regarding a student’s academic strengths, weaknesses, and other needs
• Works collaboratively with RCPS professionals concerning the eligibility process for special education
• Maintains confidentiality of all evaluative information and student records
• Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated knowledge of assessment and evaluation instruments, tools, methods, techniques, and reporting procedures. Considerable knowledge of special education processes/procedures and applicable regulations, including in-depth knowledge of student referral, evaluation, and identification under the IDEIA. Demonstrated ability in interpretation and explanation of evaluation/assessment results to a variety of internal and external stakeholders for clarity and comprehension. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to include technical report writing. Working knowledge of the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs), Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning (VESOLs), and the Virginia Assessment Program.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: Master’s Degree in psychology, special education, or related field. Valid Virginia Post-Graduate Professional license with appropriate endorsement(s). 3-5 years of successful teaching or related experience.
Preferred: Advanced/Post-Graduate Degree in psychology, special education, or related field. Prior experience as an educational diagnostician, psychometrician, or other relevant position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is typically performed in an office or school location. Regular travel to school locations.
