GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The Food Truck Intern will perform and train in various responsibilities of the food service operation. Will work directly with food service management and ROTEC administrators in the development and operation of a food truck enterprise.  This position will report to the Director of Food and Nutrition.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Assists foodservice employees engaged in cleaning, maintaining, cooking or serving at facilities of school establishments.
• Assists in daily operations.
• Learns how to operate and maintain equipment on an as-needed basis.
• Performs day-to-day assignments.
• Maintains and observes department’s guidelines.
• May provide feedback on guidelines.
• May be assigned special projects.
• May assist in calculating recipes and menu planning.
• Attends weekly food truck planning meeting.
• Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
• Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
• Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
• Complies with all HACCP/OSHA and/or local policies and procedures.
• Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
• Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
• May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Roanoke City Public Schools is an urban school division serving a k-12 student population of 13,800 in 17 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 2 senior high schools, Forest Park Academy, Noel C Taylor Learning Academy, and Roanoke Valley Governor's School. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
This position is open to current RCPS high school students in good standing only.  Food service or culinary experience preferred but not required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.  Significant walking or other means of mobility.  Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).  Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to assistants.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, newsletters, schedules, manuals, invoices, requisitions, menus, recipes, journals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, procedures, charts, surveys, articles, bid specifications, brochures, news releases, handbooks, budgets, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)  Must be able to communicate via telephone.
Working Conditions (may add additional conditions specific to defined work location):
Generally, in an indoor setting; however, may supervise outside activities and events.  Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends and extended hours as business dictates.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
