MAKO is searching for a Patient Services Rep (Phlebotomist) for our Brand new Patient Service Center in WIlmington, NC. This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled Phlebotomist with Pediatric experience being a MUST. This team member will be responsible for collecting specimens according to established procedures. This includes, but not limited to: drug screens, blood samples, processing pathology and cytology samples. Job Title: Patient Service Center Phlebotomist Job Summary: The Patient Service Center Phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipuncture and skin puncture techniques to collect blood specimens from patients for medical laboratory testing. This role also involves interacting with patients to provide excellent customer service and maintain a safe and clean working environment. Key Responsibilities: Blood Collection: Utilize venipuncture and skin puncture techniques to draw blood samples from patients. Verify patient identity and ensure proper labeling of collected specimens. Patient Interaction: Provide compassionate and professional care to patients, explaining the blood collection procedure to alleviate anxiety and address any concerns. Address patient questions and concerns in a courteous and informative manner. Maintain patient confidentiality and respect their rights. Specimen Handling: Properly handle and process blood specimens to ensure accurate test results. Label and document collected specimens accurately and in compliance with protocols. Safety and Infection Control: Adhere to strict safety and infection control protocols to minimize the risk of contamination and infection transmission. Dispose of used needles and biohazard materials safely and appropriately. Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and clean phlebotomy equipment regularly, ensuring it is in proper working condition. Report any malfunctioning equipment for repair or replacement. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of blood collections, patient information, and specimen handling in electronic or paper records as required. Quality Assurance: Follow established quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results. Participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement initiatives. Compliance: Adhere to all relevant regulations, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a phlebotomy training program or equivalent experience. Phlebotomy certification (e.g., Certified Phlebotomy Technician, CPT). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment. Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures is a plus. Must have Pediatric experience. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods. Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for venipuncture. Lift and carry supplies and equipment (up to 50 pounds). Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays. A Patient Service Center Phlebotomist is a critical member of the healthcare team, ensuring that blood samples are collected accurately, safely, and with the utmost care and respect for patients' well-being.
