Full job description
The Asthma & Allergy Center of Roanoke is a small, private medical practice looking for an experienced medical receptionist or front office person to join our busy practice in Roanoke and Salem. The candidate we select will be working at our Salem office right near Lewis Gale hospital 2 days per week and will be working the other 3 days in our Roanoke office on Franklin Road in Old Southwest. We have a friendly front office team and they are anxious to welcome another member. We're looking for someone who has an excellent work ethic and awesome communications skills. Our office has a welcoming family feel that you just don't find these days in larger corporate practices or hospitals. We work hard and provide great service to our patients but we also laugh a lot, we eat a lot and try to have an upbeat positive work environment. Hourly rate is competitive based on prior experience.
The ideal candidate should:
• Be dependable! (This is the #1 characteristic we are looking for!) Be here as scheduled and prepared to work your shift as assigned.
• Be able to work in our Salem location 2 days per week. (Mondays & Tuesdays)
• Have a positive attitude and good communication skills.
• Have excellent computer skills and the ability to type quickly.
• Excel at multitasking, staying organized and being extremely detail oriented.
• Be willing and eager to learn.
• Take initiative to help with whatever tasks are needed in the front office.
• Provide friendly professional customer service - we put patients first.
• Enjoy working as part of a team.
• Prior medical front office experience is required.
• Must pass background check.
Duties
In a professional and friendly manner:
• Answer reception phone lines
• Greet and check in patients in the office and by phone
• Take the initiative to ensure a smooth check in process for all patients
• Schedule appointments in our medical scheduling/EMR software
• Work with medical staff as needed to locate patients, handle rescheduling, etc.
• Set up new patient appointments and collect necessary documentation from patients or referring physician's offices
• Manage and collect patient demographic and insurance information
• Consult with patients regarding billing inquiries
• Take and record patient payments
• Assist with medical records requests and various billing office tasks.
• Familiarity working in an electronic medical records system is helpful, but not required

The practice was founded in 1948 and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all allergic conditions.
