Part of the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing consists of nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities and is home to more than 9,000 students. The department employs 220 full-time staff members, 21 graduate assistants and 565 undergraduate student workers. As a self-supporting auxiliary, University Housing operates a $59 million budget derived only from student housing fees and other non-state sources.

Position Summary
The residential building services training assistant ensures the successful training and orientation of new employees in the field of building service operations for all facilities in University Housing. This position primarily involves hands-on training for new employees after their initial training lab sessions, ensuring they are proficient in their roles and responsibilities. The position works closely with the residential building services manager on ensuring frontline staff are trained to meet quality standards of building cleanliness and communicating supply needs. Additionally, the training assistant will be responsible for system-wide Quality Assurance (QA) using established tools and techniques to inspect the cleanliness and upkeep of University Housing spaces.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
• Knowledge of custodial supplies, products, equipment, techniques and quality standards.
• Knowledge of the care and use of custodial equipment, tools, and supplies common in cleaning campus facilities.
• Ability to work and communicate professionally and effectively with a variety of constituents - verbally, in person and via email.
• Exercise independent judgement and initiative in completing work assignments, demonstrated ability to follow through on tasks, and ability to identify and implement changes to increase efficiency.
• Training, coaching, and mentoring skills that promote employee success.
• Capable with Microsoft Office suite and can learn and adapt to other department and university systems (e.g., work order system, time keeping system).

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb stairs, and work with hands above head while on a ladder.

Training and Program Support
• Conduct hands-on training sessions for new employees, orienting them to the community and the duties of residential building services roles.
• Assist in facilitating onboarding activities for new employees. Follow up with staff as they navigate the six-month probationary period.
• Ensure trainees are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
• Provide continuous support and guidance during the training period, addressing trainees' questions and concerns.
• Assist the training manager in creating and implementing training programs, incorporating best practices and industry standards.
• Collaborate with the training manager to develop training materials and resources for both the training lab and hands-on sessions.
• Contribute to the improvement of training methods based on feedback and performance evaluations.
• Work closely with the training manager, Residential Building Services staff, and future supervisors to facilitate a smooth transition for trainees from training to their assigned roles.

• Utilize software to conduct systematic QA inspections of University Housing spaces.
• Evaluate the cleanliness and upkeep of facilities, ensuring they meet established standards and guidelines.
• Document inspection results and provide feedback to custodial staff and supervisors for continuous improvement.

• Assist building services summer project work to include providing leadership on deep cleaning and other related tasks, overseeing cleaning efforts during conference and other building turnovers, scheduling and overseeing contracted work, and ensuring facilities are ready for new student occupancy.
