Role Overview
Performs complex skilled human support work developing, implementing, and supervising childcare program participants, materials, activities, and procedures, motivating children to achieve maximum potential, preparing, and maintaining records and reports, and related work as required. Work is performed under the general direction of the Childcare Site Manager. Division supervision is exercised over volunteers, program participants, and Teacher Assistants.
***This position will operate from May 12th - August 17th, 2024***
Role Description
• Ensures the supervision and well-being of children; ensures codes and rules are being followed according to regulations.
• Opens and closes child care facility in Site Managers absence.
• Ensures that children are accounted for before, during and after activities and placed with their rightful guardian.
• Prepares and participates in learning activities, crafts and games with children; assists with homework/online learning for children on all education levels, etc.
• Encourages the children to attempt new activities, new foods, and interaction with other children.
• Encourages the children to be positive, set examples for other children and treat each other respectfully.
• Assists in preparing a healthy, well-balanced snack for the children; ensures children with allergies do not get foods they could react to.
• Gives verbal directions helping manage children.
• Completes injury, illness, and behavior reports as needed and discusses with parents/guardians.
• Helps maintain inventory and assess life expectancy of toys and supplies; assembles toys and replaces batteries, cleans and disinfect toys, games, and supplies as needed.
• Sanitizes the tables before meals and snacks; ensures that all tables, floors, windows, and cabinets are clean and organized regularly.
• Assists in putting groceries away; answers phones; assists parents, as needed; relays messages; collects and receipts payments and other monies.
• Ensures first aid is given on an as-needed basis, including allowable emergency medications once trained to do so. Watches for signs of abuse and neglect.
• Escorts the children to/from and monitors the restrooms as children use them.
• Assists Lead Teachers and Site Manager with any filing and/or paperwork.
• Executes fire drills, evacuation drills, and shelter in place drills in the Site Managers absence.
• Attend a minimum of 20 hours of yearly training and any additional training as requested.
• Performs related tasks as required.
Education
High School diploma, or equivalent and educational requirements as outlined in the VA Department of Licensing Standards for Program Leaders. Current certifications as indicated below in the Special Requirements section and the minimal required experience in handling group child care, or equivalent combination of education and experience as outlined in the VA Department of Licensing Standards for Program Leaders. Prefer at least one year experience in a licensed child care setting.
Special Requirements
Satisfactory results on a criminal history background, central registry check, and sex offender registry check are required.
Minimum age of 18 years old.
Completion of the Office on Youth Supervisor Training Book prior to promotion for new supervisors or within 60 days of employment date.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Obtain the following certifications:
• CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of employment
• Daily Health Observations or Health Screening certification within 90 days of employment
• Medication Administration Training (MAT) within 6 months
• Recognition of Child Abuse & Neglect training within 60 days of employment
