JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Camp Administrator
REPORTS TO: Melissa Hildebrand, COO
Classification/FLSA Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt
LOCATION: Roanoke Headquarters, Camp Icimani (Roanoke), Camp Sacajawea (Lynchburg) and Camp Sugar Hollow (Crozet)
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for providing management oversight and delivery of programming and girl experience at summer camps and signature programs at council properties. Responsible for council property reservations. Responsible for the development of innovative strategies and effective services for supporting girl and adult membership. Special focus will include outdoor programs, camps, and STEM. Works in close partnership with other operational and organizational functions to support organizational mission, goals, and strategic priorities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. With the support of the COO and the Senior Leadership Team you will create a needs-based, data driven, comprehensive council-wide offering of programs including s pecialized outdoor programming events, such as summer camp experiences, archery, and other outdoor programming.
2. Plans, coordinates, implements council events to provide fun, engaging participation options for all girl members and supports council program revenue.
3. Builds and maintains registrations and rosters for all summer camps and other program events as assigned.
4. Cultivates relationships with appropriate community partners to support girl programming, and events.
5. Interprets and ensures that the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is present in all girl events.
6. Recruits, trains, and manages volunteers for the effective delivery of events, outdoor programming, and summer camp.
7. Creates and implements an outdoor program strategy in collaboration with volunteer camp staff.
8. Stays abreast of all outdoor program opportunities from GSUSA.
9. Prepares, coordinates, and reports budgets for events, travel, and outdoor programming.
10. Serves as the point of contact for council property reservations, including processing and tracking reservations.
11. Supports Alternative Program Delivery (APD) programming as needed.
12. Participate in and support other program events developed by other members of the program team.
13. Support local Service Unit events as needed.
14. Ensures Girl Scouting is open and accessible to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scout message of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
15. Promotes and assists with council-wide programs, activities, public relation, and fund development endeavors.
16. Active participation in the development of environments that foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and access through words, actions, and attitude.
17. Optimizes use of technology to support customer service for volunteers.
18. Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree with two years’ experience and/or supervision of youth recreational programs, preferably in a non-profit or membership-based organization, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Knowledge of Girl Scouting, Girl Scout Leadership Experience, Girl Scouts National Program Portfolio (or ability to learn quickly upon job entry)
· Required certification and/or willingness to become certified. Instructor certifications a plus: First Aid/CPR
· Prior camp administration, American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation, experience in writing outdoor, experiential program curriculum, adult instruction and training preferred but not required.
· Daily access to transportation, along with applicable documentation of legally required automobile insurance and valid driver’s license; ability to travel independently to a variety of locations in the council's jurisdiction or other locations.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Ability to travel as position responsibilities require.
· Subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement and become a registered member of the Girl Scouts of the USA.
· Experience working with diverse populations.
