The Role Itself
NewVista is currently recruiting for a PRN Corporate Coding Specialist.
• Evaluate medical record documentation to optimize reimbursement by ensuring diagnostic and/or procedural codes and other documentation reflects and supports in-patient and outpatient visits. Also, ensuring that data complies with legal standards and guidelines.
• Interprets medical information such as diseases, symptoms, and other diagnostic descriptions to assign and sequence the correct ICD-10-CM and CPT codes.
• Review state Medicaid and federal Medicare reimbursement claims for completeness and accuracy before submission to minimize claim denials.
• Keep updated on all coding changes for insurance payers and CMS expectations.
• Work as a liaison between NewVista and payers to determine coding and medical record inconsistencies.
• Effectively communicate with medical facility staff, patients, and/or insurance payers as needed.
Job Requirements:
Education:
• High school diploma or GED required.
Work Experience:
• 6 months of facility revenue cycle experience to include in-patient and outpatient medical coding for government agencies and insurance companies.
• 6 months experience in writing technical and medical necessity appeals to insurance companies.
• Possession of an Accredited Record Technicians certification (ART), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) issued by the American Health Information Management Association, or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) issued by the American Academy of Professional Coders, or the;
• Equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities.
