Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician: The ophthalmic assistant/technician will report to the clinical manager.
Position: Full time, Monday-Friday

Job Overview: Ophthalmic assistants at Eye Care and Surgery assist both the ophthalmologists and optometrists in patient care. Working closely with our doctors, they perform essential testing, screening, scribing, answer patient messages, and assist in minor surgeries while our patient support specialists take care of scheduling, obtaining insurance, payment, and screening phone calls. Our in-house insurance department also aids our team. This is a fast-paced work environment with emphasis placed on professional development and certification, encouraging higher level patient care.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Screening: obtains a chief complaint; performs lensometry; checks vision, contact lenses (if applicable), muscles, confrontational visual fields, pupils, refraction, and intraocular pressure
• Testing: visual fields, nerve fiber analysis, optical coherence tomography, keratometry, pachymetry, Pentacam, Cassini, Argos, Lenstar, IOL Master, A-scan, B-scan, Fluorescein Angiogram, Indocyanine Green Angiogram (most, but not all of the testing listed is done by every assistant)
• Scribing (some, but not all of assistants): follows the doctor as he/she sees their patients, takes notes, reviews charts, selects diagnoses, charges, and composes the treatment plan and return
• Assisting with minor surgeries in the clinic
• Some travel is involved to our satellite locations (Botetourt, Smith Mountain Lake, and Blacksburg), but will predominately be in Roanoke and Botetourt
Qualifications
• High school diploma/GED (preferred college degree)
• Preferred health care experience
• Preferred ophthalmic experience and certification (however on the job training available)
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and on your feet
• Must be able to learn and operate electronic medical records system
• Must be able to work on a team
• Positive attitude and drive
