Title: Deputy Clerk - Roanoke City JDR

Job Duties
The Deputy Court Clerk (Grade 8) is assigned operational responsibilities in a high-volume, fast paced office with frequent deadlines; provides support to the Clerk of Court and judges. Ensures that court instructions are executed, and legal documents are prepared with accuracy and in accordance with appropriate policies, procedures, and judicial instructions. Must be able to work well under pressure and have a desire to work in a team environment.
As a public-facing member of the court’s operation, empathy and trauma-informed customer service skills are crucial for success in this role.
This position offers a competitive benefits package, which includes vacation and sick leave, 13 paid holidays, health insurance, retirement, life insurance, deferred compensation and short- and long-term disability.
The duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
• Preparing detailed court documents in accordance with established guidelines
• Entering data into automated Case Management System and scanning documents
• Scheduling matters for court
• Preparing correspondence, court forms, and filing court documents
• Handling of outgoing and/or incoming mail
• Answering phones, assisting customers at the counter, assessing fines and costs and receipting payments
• Interacting with diverse customers, attorneys, law enforcement, and various agencies in a professional and courteous manner.
• Must be able to multitask and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. Most competitive applicants will have considerable court, business, or office related experience and should be proficient with Microsoft Outlook and Word. Applicants should be highly organized and able to work independently as well as part of a team. Time management skills, ability to manage changing priorities, fast and accurate data entry, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
