The Salem District maintains more than 9,200 miles of roads in southwestern Virginia in the counties of:
Bedford,Botetourt,Carroll,Craig,Floyd,Franklin,Giles.Henry,Montgomery,Patrick,Pulaski, and Roanoke. The district serves more than 650,000 citizens in these counties and the 14 cities and towns in its boundaries.
We are seeking an innovative and collaborative Fleet Administrator Supervisor. This position reports to the District Equipment Manager. The successful candidate will order, receive, and assign equipment and will supervise, guide and coach staff, resolve technical and administrative problems, develop district equipment policies and procedures, and oversee processes to meet customer equipment needs through acquisition. Selected incumbent will also manage staffing levels and assignments, productivity monitoring and workload planning. Incumbent will develop equipment and modification specifications to meet district specific needs, manage procurement process, work with vendors to resolve issues. Incumbent will also develop and manage equipment contracts, authorize contract use and assess effectiveness, determine user needs and best way to meet those needs. This position also coordinates outsourced repair efforts with internal customers and vendors.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of the functional requirements and capabilities of various types of heavy duty and repair shop equipment. Knowledge of equipment procurement procedures and practices. Knowledge of equipment repair practices. Knowledge of diagnostic strategies and diagnostic software. Knowledge of equipment safety and accident prevention strategies. Ability to supervise staff, programs, and budgets. Ability to understand and interpret equipment specifications and the relevance of individual equipment types for the overall fleet. Ability to analyze the effectiveness of shop operations. Ability to gather and analyze data and create reports. Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
Additional Considerations
Experience in fleet management and equipment operations, as well as supervision of staff and programs. Experience developing equipment specifications. College degree in mechanical engineering, business administration, or related field desired. Certified Professional Fleet Manager preferred.
