Lab Technician
DEPARTMENT: Water Quality & Production REPORTS TO: Water Quality Lab Supervisor
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30 pm
Position Summary:
The Lab Technician is responsible for collecting samples, performing routine analysis, and entering data into systems to generate monthly reports. This position also assists laboratory staff in ensuring that water quality meets all standards. Additionally, this position contributes to the regulatory compliance and efficient operations of the District.
Essential Functions:
Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
• Performs routine bacteriological analysis for compliance and collection of contract samples.
• Collects routine samples of chemical and microbiological analysis.
• Enters analysis data and generates state reports for bacteriological parameters.
• Compiles data daily for input into the LIMS.
• Handles customer complaints and concerns.
• Performs proper maintenance on microbiological equipment.
• Assist other laboratory personnel with sample collection and analysis.
• Ensures the cleanliness of the lab and glassware.
• Participates in training and continuing education.
• Performs other appropriate duties and assignments as directed.
• Ensures compliance of company policies, including but not limited to safety concerns and incident reporting.
• This description describes only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.
Required Education and Experience:
• High School diploma or GED
• General knowledge of water treatment and sample collection preferred.
Licensing/Certifications:
• Valid Driver’s License
• Ability to obtain Micro Laboratory Analyst Certification within 1 year.
Additional Skills:
• Ability to maintain effective, fair, cooperative, collaborative, and respectful relationships with internal and external colleagues, peers, work teams and workgroups.
• Ability to work with Microsoft Office programs, LIMS & databases, and other software.
• Ability to work with unique problems and prioritize workload.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
This job primarily operates in a climate-controlled office or laboratory setting. Some time may be spent outdoors or in a processing treatment facility which would involve exposure to weather conditions, elevated noise levels or conditions commonly not found in a typical office environment. Persons in this role will also be exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals. Works with equipment such as computers, laboratory equipment, copy machine, fax, and phones. Frequently required to sit, climb, lift in excess of 50 lbs., pull/push, carry, grasp, reach, stoop, and crawl. The position requires auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and/or procedures. There is no regular travel expected for this position.
