Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
This position reports directly to the Program Coordinator and focuses on the Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program at Camp Jekyll located on Jekyll Island GA. Work includes leading K-12 students attending multiple-day field studies in multi-disciplinary classes in the outdoors. Class subjects offered include life and earth science and focus on coastal ecology and marine science. This role will support the Program Coordinator with the development and dissemination of contracts, schedules for visiting groups, and instructor teaching rotations. Other duties include occasional supervision of seasonal staff members when the Director or Program Coordinator is not present, care of captive marine and reptile wildlife in the herpetology lab, curriculum development, assisting in cleanup of facilities, serving in the dining hall on KP (kitchen patrol) as assigned, aiding the Program Coordinator with training seasonal staff, operating the Canteen souvenir store when assigned, and being a part of a rotating evening on-call assignment. This person will also assist with Georgia 4-H Summer Camping Program and provide support to the overall operation of Camp Jekyll.
Separate staff housing is provided on-site. Staff person is not required to chaperone children overnight, although frequent evening programs and weekend work.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Skill in teaching a wide variety of subjects to youth 6-18 years old
- Broad knowledge of outdoor education and able to work in an outdoor setting
- Ability to work with and care for reptiles, amphibians, marine fish/invertebrates/mollusks
- Ability to communicate effectively with youth, adults, and young adults
- Ability to work independently
- Trained in, or willingness to be trained in, CPR /FA/ AED /Lifeguarding
Physical Demands
Lift up to 40 pounds. Sit for significant periods of time while working at a computer; standing and lifting cleaning supplies, teaching supplies; sitting while driving or attending meetings. Be comfortable working in all types of weather conditions. Walk approximately 3 miles a day. Driving.
