The Department of Business Services at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for Director, Auxiliary Business Applications and Technology . The Director of Business Services Applications and Technology will be responsible for supporting and/or liaising with the various operations withing the Business Services portfolio consisting of, Print and Mail Services, Dining Services, Bookstore, Housing and Residence Life, and Parking and Transportation Services. They will also provide direct oversight of the university’s ID Card operations and related components such as mobile credentials, meal plan management, and declining balance features.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the design, installation, modification, and operation of information technology and/or communications equipment or services for auxiliary operations with the Business Services unit. Ensure that priorities are adhered to.
• Provide project management: develop, maintain, and communicate project plans and schedules, allocate resources, assign tasks, prioritize requirements, provide reports, and communicate progress. May devise and implement solutions to complex technical problems.
• Adjust project plans with changes in technology or environment. Investigate alternatives and research emerging technology. Prepare short- and long-range plans for the unit’s information technology such that they support the overall mission and strategic direction.
• Foster collaboration and liaisons with other managers, both within the unit, or within the University and with external sources to facilitate ideas, develop initiatives or solutions, and project management planning and implementation.
• Plan purchases of information technology hardware, software, peripherals, or services. Evaluate products and recommend new technologies that will achieve efficiencies, provide additional capabilities, enhance current processes, or eliminate risks. Ensure vendor products and services meet specifications and policies.
• Manage staff by leading and influencing; encourage and develop plans for career and professional development. Create opportunities for employees to gain work experience utilizing new skills. May manage subordinate supervisory staff. May provide high level technical advice and guidance to staff.
• Coordinate and allocate human or financial resources ensuring consistent, high-quality operations of the unit is achieved. Communicate/facilitate organizational goals; apply delegation strategies to increase productivity.
• Create high performance teams that generate innovative solutions to problems; lead team in working in situations where there are competing deadlines, resources, and requirements. Create an environment where team takes independent action.
• Develop and implement departmental standards, policies, and procedures. Set standards and solicit feedback to ensure effective use of resources. Ensure issues are addressed timely, competently, and to the customer's satisfaction. Communicate administrative policies, procedures, and updates to staff.
• Follow proper procedures related to secure computing, account maintenance and purchasing.
• Maintain accurate documentation to support these efforts.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Equivalent combination of experience, education and/or certifications may be substituted in lieu of degree.
Experience: Ten years of related experience
Anticipated Hiring Range : $125-140K commensurate with education and experience. This is an exempt level, benefited position. For more information on the benefits at UVA, visit hr.virginia.edu/benefits.
