POSITION SUMMARY: Promotes harm reduction services in Butler County, Ohio with a special focus on providing educational trainings, distributing naloxone and operating the county’s Syringe Services Program (SSP). The emphasis is on “meeting individuals where they are” and providing non-judgmental, non-coercive services, and resources to individuals who use drugs. This position is supported through harm reduction grant funding. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: •Serves as co-lead of all countywide naloxone distribution efforts •Staffs the weekly Syringe Services Program (SSP) in Butler County by providing individuals with harm reduction services and education. •Drives mobile clinic vehicle to SSP sites •Enthusiastic about working with diverse community partners to help them identify their most pressing issues, and develop and implement plans to alleviate situations that lead to drug overdoses •Participates and records minutes in the Butler County Prevention Coalition and Addiction Task force, Harm Reduction Subcommittee and SSP meetings •Participates in fulfilling Butler County Integrated Harm Reduction (IH) grant goals, deliverables, and attends quarterly meetings with Ohio Department of Health grant consultants •Assists with naloxone and SSP data entry into REDCap •Attends and actively participates in state level injury prevention coalition •Identifies strategies from state level injury prevention plan to implement locally •Assists with the development of the community strategic plan for drug overdose prevention •Assists with maintaining the Overdose Fatality and Suicide Review Board by identifying prevention opportunities, and recommendations to better describe the scope of the issues and trends identified •Assists with the development of the county-wide surveillance and immediate response plan •Conducts community outreach to meet identified needs in the county around drug prevention OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Ability to create and deliver training and technical assistance on harm reduction services using a variety of instructional techniques such as educational lecture, role playing, experiential learning, team exercises, group discussions, multi-media, etc. •Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to prioritize time appropriately •Demonstrate the ability to work with people and groups from a wide variety of backgrounds and across differences in race, culture, nationality, age, gender, sexual orientation, values, beliefs, learning styles, and literacy levels. •Skilled public speaker with the ability to inspire, educate and persuade audiences. •Ability to work independently and as part of a team. •Ensures agency mission, vision, and programmatic success •Ability to staff weekly comprehensive harm reduction programs (SSP) in Butler County and work with people of various backgrounds who may use drugs •Ensures that all grant deliverables are completed successfully and on time •Participates in state level injury prevention coalition and subcommittee meetings •Embraces and proposes Quality Improvement activities as needed and required •Participates in Public Health Accreditation activities as needed and required •Must be able to respond to public health emergencies or exercises 24/7, except while on scheduled vacation or other leave •May be required to play an active leadership role in the event of a public health emergency, which may include changes in responsibilities and working hours •Evening and weekend work may be required during public health events, investigations or emergencies •Other duties as assigned MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : •High school diploma or equivalent (GED); or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience which provided the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. •Ability to work outdoors and in the field a minimum of three days a week. •Ability to lift supplies up to 25 lbs. •Willingness to drive the mobile clinic vehicle to SSP sites •Experience working within a harm reduction setting or working with populations of people who use drug or experiences mental health issues •Understanding of public health prevention and harm reduction concepts with an emphasis on knowledge of syringe service programs PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: •Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, community nursing, communications, community organizing, or related field, preferred •Government or grant related experience •2+ years’ experience working in a harm reduction setting with an emphasis on syringe service program experiences •Working knowledge of Butler County neighborhoods, resources, and social services •Experience in facilitating, building or leading community collaborations/task forces •Experience with program planning including developing logic models and work plans •Exceptional communication and leadership skills with proven experience LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: •Valid Driver’s license in good standing, insurable by the Board of Health’s Policy •Successful completion of basic and advanced FEMA classes within 2 months of hire.
