First Evangelical Presbyterian Church Roanoke, VA Established in 1851, Roanoke’s First Evangelical Presbyterian Church (FEPC) is located on the corners of Jefferson Street and McClanahan Street. With a congregation of approximately 200 members, FEPC is a church that is passionate about spreading and defending the Gospel in its biblical truth. In October 2015, FEPC became affiliated with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. FEPC looks forward to continuing to proclaim Christ as Lord through our music ministry as we search for a new Director of Music Ministries. Position: Director of Music Ministries Reports to: Senior Pastor FEPC Worship Commission Job Type: Part-time Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week Duties: 1. Consults with members of the professional staff in the selection of appropriate music for worship services, weddings, and funeral services at the church. 2. Directs all choirs, or selects, trains (as needed), and supervises volunteer directors. 3. Schedules and leads regular choir rehearsals, Sunday services, and special worship opportunities. 4. Recruits, mentors, and trains new choir members. 5. Consults with appropriate commissions on musical activities, policies, and needs. 6. Maintains and/or oversees the maintenance of church musical equipment; including, obtaining qualified service personnel to maintain proper environments and care for the organ, pianos, and other musical equipment and making recommendations regarding the purchase of new instruments or equipment. 7. Develops the overall church musical ministries to include other choirs and special musical programming. 8. Oversees the music for Vacation Bible School. 9. Operates the music program within a given budget, ordering, cataloging, and maintaining the FEPC music library. 10. Develops relationships with local musicians who may provide music for special worship occasions. 11. Works with the Director of Youth and Adult Christian Education and the Director of Children’s Ministries to build and maintain youth and children’s music ministry programs. 12. Attends scheduled staff meetings and commission meetings, as requested. 13. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: The person chosen for this position must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, be in agreement with the EPC Essentials of Faith (see www.epc.org/about/beliefs), and agreement with EPC Position Papers (see www.epc.org/downloads/) A sense of Christian ministry and pastoral care for those in the music program Bachelor’s degree in music or a related field, or equivalent experience Demonstrated experience leading and directing choirs, instrumental ensembles, and musical worship A strong spirit of collegiality and cooperation Experience recruiting and developing new members, and identifying opportunities to grow and expand the music department A familiarity with musical literature traditionally used in liturgical worship Plays the organ and/or piano competently Compensation: Commensurate with degree(s) and experience ($24,000 - $30,000 per year) To apply: Email resume and audio/video samples to: FEPCMusicSearch@gmail.com References will be checked Job Type: Part-time Pay: $24,000.00 - $30,000.00 per year Expected hours: 20 per week Ability to Relocate: Roanoke, VA 24014: Relocate before starting work (Required) Work Location: In person
