FSWVA Salem Children's Program AmeriCorps Member serving 32 hours a week (Jun 10, 2024-Aug 16, 2024) Feeding Southwest Virginia was founded in 1981 and proudly commemorates over 40 years of fighting hunger and changing lives through community partnerships. Our mission is to nourish neighbors, engage community partners, and develop solutions to address food insecurity. The Food Bank is an affiliate member of Feeding America and for the last four decades the Food Bank’s ultimate mission has remained the same: eliminate hunger in the region. Primary Duties Include: Assist in the administration, implementation, access, and quality of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Collaborate with partner agencies- including community and faith-based organizations as well as local social service agencies Assist in meal preparation and packaging in the production kitchen Assist in an assembly line packing of non-perishable food items into boxes for distribution to our Children’s Feeding Programs Assist with delivery of both fresh meal orders to site locations and/or on the Kid’s Foodie Truck as well as shelf stable meal orders to sites Assist with mobile Pop Up meal sites, Kids Farmers Markets, Backpack Distributions including travel to and from site, packing and distributing food Improve awareness of nutritious food throughout the Children’s Programs Kids Farmers Markets and Backpack Distributions will include packing, setting up & breaking down event, distributing food and/or expand nutrition education offerings by creating materials Assisting with Canvassing eligible neighborhoods to help make families aware of free children’s meal Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must have a Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record for at least three years This location requires a total service commitment of 300 hours .
