City of Madelia Job Opening General Statement of Duties: Performance in a variety of tasks involving construction, maintenance and repairs to the Municipal town roads, streets, storm sewers, facilities and equipment, parks and building maintenance. Essential Functions of the Position Maintains and repairs City streets including blacktop patching, street sign repair and painting, sidewalk repair, curb and gutter repair and sweeping and debris removal. Operates various types of equipment including tractor backhoe, pay loader, dump trucks, ¾ ton truck, snow and ice removal equipments, road grader, backhoe, roller packer, sewer cleaning equipment and street sweeper. Performs general and preventative maintenance and minor repairs on City Buildings and equipment. Maintains and operates mowers, trimmers, chain saws and other miscellaneous hand tools. Assists in repairing water main breaks and cleans and maintains sanitary and storm sewer lines. Mows grass areas and trims trees for City property and other areas as directed. Maintains and operates City Compost Site. Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks. Directs large problems to supervisor. Assists other City departments in all projects as directed. Responsible to self-initiate activities consistent with the City of Madelia’s department’s goals and objectives. Must report for work at required time and date and maintain a responsible attendance record. Must have the ability to work variable hours and be available for weekend call time and snow removal. The ability to follow a supervisor’s instructions, tolerate certain levels of stress and attend work on a punctual, regular basis. The avoidance of violent behavior that threatens the safety of other employees. Related and other duties required. Performs other duties as apparent or assigned. Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of equipment maintenance and repair including procedures, methods and tools. Working Knowledge of street, water main and sewer line maintenance including methods, tools, and practices. Working knowledge of storm sewer and wastewater collection system operations and water and wastewater treatment operations and distributions or ability and willingness to become knowledgeable. Knowledge of rules, regulations and placement of traffic control and informative signage materials. Knowledge of tree trimming techniques. Knowledge of safety policies and procedures. Work outside for long periods of time and in all kinds of weather, performing tasks that require physical strength and endurance. Understand and follow instructions and specifications. Adjust to doing the same kind of work all day long or performing a variety of different tasks on the same, depending on daily business needs. Work skillfully with your hands to do a variety of tasks. Able to use arithmetic to measure, compute amount of materials to use, and to inspect product to be sure it confirms to requirement. Ability to understand and communicate written instructions. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Minnesota Class B Commercial Drivers License Physical Demands: Varies from Medium Work to Very Heavy Work. Environmental Conditions: Both: Inside and outside.
