Babies First Newborn Hearing Screen Position: Newborn Hearing Screener Position Summary: Responsible for completion of automated newborn hearing screens on newborn. On Call for quick discharges 5 days per week 32-40 hours per week Summary of Responsibilities: Evaluate and prioritize newborns to be screened for hearing loss prior to discharge from hospital based upon established protocol. Estimated discharge time, ensuring that length of stay (LOS) is not prolonged for hearing screening Determine need for 2nd screening prior to discharge Determine newborn’s state and ideal time for screen Perform automated hearing screens in parent’s room unless NICU/Special Care newborn Identify any risk factors for hearing loss Perform automated screening test using designated equipment, strictly following established protocols and procedure Inform parents of results of hearing screening, answering any questions after screen Provide parents with written information to take home about hearing loss and speech and language milestones Refer any questions unable to answer to program coordinator and/or Clinical sponsor Assist parents in scheduling appropriate follow-up appointments if newborn does not pass the hearing screening. If parent refusal, completed parent refusal including parent’s signature on form and put into medical record of newborn. Notify hospital staff of refusal. Document hearing screen results and high-risk factors in medical record and newborn hearing screening log as indicated by screening protocol Follow established infection control procedures Recognize problems with screening equipment, troubleshoot as necessary and report any recurrent or unresolved problems to program coordinator and/or technical support Recognize and report any potential problems of newborn to hospital personnel Monitor inventory of supplies and report supply needs to program coordinator. Maintain appropriate supply levels with screening equipment Complete billing sheets for all hearing screenings performed and submit to program coordinator Job Types: Part-time, Contract Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour Benefits: Flexible schedule Schedule: Day shift Holidays Weekends as needed Education: High school or equivalent (Required) License/Certification: BLS Certification (Preferred) Work Location: In person
