Job Summary:
The Civil / LA Project Engineer plans, designs, and directs engineering projects such as roads, water supply, sanitary sewer, and subdivision/site plans.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projectVisits project site to ascertain existing conditionsCalculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected dataPrepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and design for projectAdministers construction contracts and conducts periodic on-site observations of work during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans and specificationsUses computer equipment and engineering and design software and equipment to develop engineering and design solutionsAccompanies survey crew in field to locate grading markers or to collect data required for plans
Required Skills and Abilities:
Ability to read, analyze and interpretAbility to write effective reports and correspondenceConstruction document and 3D production abilityPossesses a firm understanding of engineering design for all aspects of site development along with current knowledge of industry trends, technology, codes and regulationsEmbraces teamwork approach and possesses strong communication skillsMust possess strong technical skillsMust demonstrate a firm understanding of project flow and necessary project tasksIntermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office productsProficient in AutoCAD and other discipline specific software
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from accredited college or university requiredProfessional engineering license from state licensing agencyValid Virginia driver’s license is required
