General Responsibilities
The Credit Recovery Program is designed for students who have recently failed Carnegie unit courses.  The program is designed for the student who has failed the course and needs to repeat the course.  This position involves coordination and administrative duties related to the PLATO LEARNING PROGRAM including the management of student data, program delivery and credit recovery.
Essential Tasks
The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statement of duties does not exclude other duties if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this position.  While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, management reserves the right to revise the job description. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Supervises students assigned to online credit recovery instruction modules in PLATO.
• Monitors the lab and students during class time.
• Monitors student attendance and progress; seeks intervention as necessary.
• Assists students with assigned academics and provides academic support.
• Compiles weekly progress reports.
• Manages entries, testing, and grades for PLATO coursework.
• Assists students with goal setting and planning for successful completion of the program.
• Builds and maintains positive relationships with students to aid in motivating students to complete graduation requirements.
• Communicates with parents, counselors, and administrators regarding the progress and completion of assigned coursework.
• Assists students individually and in small groups to review and prepare for SOL assessments.
• Verifies with each student credits required for graduation, and establishes a course of action; monitors progress and outcomes.
• Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
• Works with Information Technology professionals to maintain computer equipment in the classroom learning lab.
• Takes all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, RCPS policy, and administrative regulation.
• Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner; makes provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Establishes relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community which reflect recognition of and respect for every individual.
• Appraises his/her own effectiveness and demonstrates successful application of skills and information acquired to increase effectiveness; strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Participates in school management and shares responsibility for the total school program.
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of RCPS curriculum and techniques for integrating curriculum, RCPS policies, and effective instructional practices; thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process; ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education; ability to infuse technology into curriculum; ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school based staff, students, parents, and community; excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills; solid technology skills related to software/hardware for a classroom learning lab environment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.  Prefer possession of or eligibility for a teacher license from the Virginia Department of Education.  A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate, instruct, compute, and evaluate. Frequently required to compare, analyze, communicate, synthesize, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
