Career advancement opportunities Competitive pay, shift and weekend incentives Payactiv: Access to the money you worked for, but haven#t been paid yet# Job Summary The Clinic Patient Care Assistant (CPCA) is responsible for providing direct and indirect care for patients presenting for preventative services, specialty services, urgent or emergent issues, and potential health problems.# Care will be provided under the supervision of the practice physician and/or advanced practice provider.# Care will be provided based on the scope of training and in accordance with documented competencies.# Services provided by the CPCA may include, but are not limited to, general patient rooming, assistance with procedures, documentation of activities.# The CPCA will provide such care utilizing established principles and ethical standards as well as policies and procedures established by Deaconess. # This position is a#Deaconess Supplemental Staff (DSS)#position, which offers a flexible schedule with a minimum requirement of 24 hours in a 6-week period. This position is a good opportunity for students and others needing more flexibility.#Supplemental hours may vary and are not guaranteed. # Job Duties#include the following: # Rooming Related Job Functions Considered#In Scope Provide practice-specific care to meet the needs and behaviors of patients based on the patient#s age and assessed level of growth and development for all ages of life. May review patient data prior to the office visit for relevant clinical updates, laboratory, x-ray and other results. May obtain medical and social history, chief complaint and/or history of present illness. Completes appropriate assessments (such as height, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse ox, hearing and vision screenings). May review the medication list with the patient and/or family.# Changes or additions to the medication list must be entered by a clinically trained and licensed or certified staff member. Documents all data obtained in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Prepares the patient for examination and sets up any necessary equipment. May serve as a chaperone for patient examination at the request of the physician or advanced practice provider. May perform point of care testing.# Obtains urine, respiratory swabs and throat swabs; completes order entry for the point of care test; processes the test and posts results. May perform phlebotomy. May complete EKGs. May complete Spirometry. Documents outgoing specimens in the specimen log. Demonstrates and adheres to safe operating guidelines for all department equipment. Maintains patient flow through the office by efficiently utilizing exam rooms. May review department specific scripted instructions to the patient and/or family; patient medical questions must be redirected to a clinically trained and licensed or certified staff member. May perform documentation assistance for the physician or advanced practice provider. Order entry may be performed under the following conditions:# a minimum of 1 year of experience, approval by both the physicians and Practice Manager, and ABROE credentialed. # Rooming Related Job Functions Considered#Out of Scope May not make changes or new entries to the medication list. May not assist the physician and/or advanced practice provider with procedures and examinations. My not administer medications, vaccinations and allergy shots. May not set up or provide nebulized treatments May not pull or log sample medications.# Once sample medications are prepared, the CPCA may distribute the sample medication at the direction of the physician or advanced practice provider. May not provide patient and/or family education. May not assist the physician and/or advanced practice provider with exams or procedures. # Phone and Clerical Related Job Functions Considered#In Scope Confers with the patient and physician and/or advanced practice provider regarding scheduling priorities for acute and routine visits. Schedules appointments. Schedules referrals. Schedules diagnostic tests. May respond to patient phone requests which have a scripted response from the physician or advanced practice provider; any medical/clinical questions that are asked by the patient must be redirected to a clinically trained and licensed or certified staff member. At the direction of the physician or advanced practice provider, may obtain patient signatures for ABNs, waivers, general consents for medical treatment, authorization to treat minors and medication contracts. May obtain and document prior authorizations. # Phone and Clerical Related Job Functions Considered#Out of Scope May not receive or document incoming patient phone requests. # Office Maintenance # Compliance Related Job Functions Considered#In Scope Cleans the patient exam and procedure rooms. Maintains adequate amounts of supplies in each exam and procedure room. Restocks department supplies, monitors supply usage, and requests to have supplies reordered in a timely manner. Maintains daily control logs for compliance including but not limited to daily refrigerator and freezer temperatures and daily disinfecting of exam rooms, tables, work surfaces # equipment. General Job Expectations Adheres to all policies for compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies. Utilizes universal precautions in handling infectious/hazardous waste materials. Maintains knowledge base and stays current with healthcare trends by completing all required in-services (both in person and electronic). Reads and replies to educational and informational e-mails in a timely manner. Attends staff and other meetings as required. Complies with Standards of Employee Conduct as specified in policy 45-19. May perform documentation assistance for the physician if approved by practice management. Performs other duties as assigned when agreed to by the Practice Manager to be within the scope of the role, education and documented competencies. # Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent.# Experience in healthcare is preferred but not required. # Certificates, Licenses, Registrations CPR provider certification is preferred but not required.
