Controls Engineer
The Controls Engineer works with the machine design team to design, build, and test the control systems for drill rigs in the environmental, geotechnical, exploration, and water well markets. The successful candidate for this position will be able to take a project from concept to completion, taking into account budgeting and operational considerations. This individual will enjoy working with and around “big iron” (we’re not making little widgets) and will spec control systems, write and test PLC code, and design wire harnesses for off-road machines. Also, while not their primary responsibility they should expect to do some basic mechanical design. They will also enjoy getting out in the shop to build prototypes, test, and refine their projects (our engineers typically spend less than 70% of their time working at their desk).
Job Responsibilities
• Work independently and collaboratively to design and develop new ideas, as well as improve existing products.
• Assume responsibility for all aspects of engineering for the assigned product including:
• Design development and analysis
• Testing and refining of the product
• Proper documentation (BOM, BOO, Service support documents, etc…)
• Create drawings for components and assemblies.
• Work with production team to improve existing products.
• Work with sales or service to address customer issues.
Requirements
Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
• 3+ years of experience preferred.
• Strong technical base in 2D CAD and engineering fundamentals.
• 3D CAD experience is beneficial.
• Experience with hydraulics and/or machine controls is helpful but not required.
• SAP experience is helpful.
• Natural curiosity and a desire to learn is critical to this position.
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
• Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills.
• Positive, cooperative attitude (especially in pressure situations) with a commitment to quality work and achieving deadlines.
• Passion for improvement.  Inspires others towards excellence.
• Willingness to travel periodically
• Able to work 44-hour work week.
