General Definition of Work Performs manual work in the care and cleaning of assigned facilities, buildings, and grounds, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor.
Essential Functions • Orders, picks up, stores, distributes, and accounts for cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Sweeps and vacuums floors; scrubs and mops assigned areas and rooms; cleans carpets.
• Washes windows, walls, and woodwork.
• Scrubs and cleans restrooms including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, etc.; fills tissue, towel, and soap dispensers.
• Performs simple building maintenance; makes minor repairs and adjustments.
• Operates machines such as electric floor scrubber and other custodial equipment.
• Keeps grounds, streets, and sidewalks free of debris and trash; sprays weed killer around perimeter of parking lots; removes snow from sidewalks of City and School buildings.
• Gathers and disposes of refuse, litter, and trash.
• Assists with painting inside and outside at various City locations as assigned.
• Assists with setting up buildings and rooms for activities and special events; assists with community programs as assigned.

Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Education & Experience
Less than high school diploma or GED and minimal experience in general custodial work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
General knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to understand oral and written directions; ability to read and write; ability to perform heavy manual work; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires walking, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires pushing or pulling and occasionally requires standing, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
