Job Summary
The Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS) Cleanroom Manager will lead the daily technical operation, maintenance of equipment, training of the users of the cleanroom in the Device Fabrication Core Facility, as well as engage in oversight of the Nanofabrication cleanroom, and Roll to Roll cleanrooms. The manager will work with the IALS Core Facility Management team, Director of Core Facilities, and Director of IALS to establish operating protocols, collaborate with faculty, staff, and students and outside users to maximize high impact research output.
Essential Functions
• Ensure daily operation of all lab equipment in the clean room, with major pieces including evaporator, sputterer, plasma etchers, wafer bonders, mask aligner, chemical and acid hoods, inspection and metrology tools, etc.
• Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for the clean room facilities and provide preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
• Trouble shoot and coordinate with technical services of tool vendors for equipment services and repair in the event of equipment malfunctions, minimizing the equipment downtime.
• Ensure the clean room facility comply with the University general health and safety standards, local environmental safety standards and appropriate quality assurance standards.
• Maintain data sheets with respect to hazardous materials and records of inspection and safety procedures.
• Train and supervise users of the clean room facility and lab safety, work with individual users in designing experiments for their research.
• Maintain usage record and send invoices to users, assist the facilities manager in project and financial review meetings.
• Stay current with technology development and suggest purchase of new equipment, negotiates technical specifications and price for new instruments purchase and supervise the installation of the instruments.
• Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
• Bachelor's degree (preferably in physical sciences or engineering) with five plus (5+) years of relevant professional experience required.
• Five (5) years' experience of cleanroom operation, tool maintenance is required.
• Excellent communication skills, the interpersonal ability to liaise effectively with staff, students, contractors and industrialists at all levels is required
• Finance and project management skills including significant experience in managing budgets is required
• Excellent IT skills of utilizing online laboratory and equipment management systems to deliver an efficient service is required Environmental Health and Safety laboratory safety training is required, and must be kept up to date. Laboratory hazardous waste management is required.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)
• M.S./Ph.D. in related field.
• Cleanroom management experience.
Additional Details
• The Facility Manager will receive direct supervision from the Director of Core Facilities of IALS. The Device Fabrication Facility committee will offer input into day to day operation. Indirectly, the Facility Manager will receive supervision from the Director of IALS, particularly in areas specific to research and scientific practices
Work Schedule
• 37.5 hours/week.
• Night and weekend work may be required on occasion.
