JOB TITLE: Health Office Assistant
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal and School Nurse Coordinator
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Health Office Assistant includes nursing assistants, clinic aides, and EMTs.  The Health Office Assistant works under the licensure of a Registered Nurse.  Responsibilities include program management, nursing services, collaboration, health education and professional practice.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assists with vision and hearing screenings and related tasks, such as recording results, sending letters to parents/ guardians, etc.;
• Weighs and measures students; completes graphs of heights and weights;
• Assists with preparations for health activities, such as physical examination of students, immunizations, etc.;
• Administers medications and treatments as delegated by the school nurse (after having the proper training);
• Reports major health concerns to the supervising “zone” Registered Nurse and/or School Nurse Coordinator within appropriate time limits;
• Provides first aid to students with injuries;
• Reports all illnesses and injuries to the “zone” Registered Nurse and/or School Nurse Coordinator for review, care and/or follow-up;
• Contacts parents of ill or injured students;
• Maintains confidentiality on student/staff information;
• Maintains a clean and orderly health office;
• Attends ongoing in-service education programs as deemed appropriate by the School Nurse Coordinator;
• Records health information (screening tests, immunization data, etc);
• Maintains an up-to-date master file of student health emergency information;
• Sends notices to parents, tabulates returns and follows up with non-respondents;
• Distributes information and forms to teachers and administrative staff;
• Initiates and distributes incident and accident reports according to the school division policy;
• Completes local and state school reports as required;
• Orders, inventories, and oversees the storage of first aid and health-related equipment; and
• Provides supervision for sick or injured students until they are placed under their parent/guardian’s care.
• Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent, preferably a C.N.A. or EMT-B; demonstrate sound judgment; ability to communicate with verbal and written language; complete training in CPR, first aid and diabetes management annually; demonstrate clerical proficiency.

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires reaching, pushing, and pulling, use of hands to grasp, handle or feel, fine manipulation, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of office equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
