The UVA Library StatLab is seeking a Graduate Student Associate for the 2024-2025 academic year. The StatLab Associate will work with the Library’s full-time statisticians to provide statistical consulting and support to UVA students and faculty across disciplines, write online instructional articles, and contribute to data analysis projects (internal to the Library or in collaboration with other organizations) as they arise. Consultations: Help students and faculty develop research designs, identify appropriate statistical analyses, interpret results, carry out data wrangling, and implement models in supported software environments.  Instructional articles: Contribute to StatLab articles, a collection of highly-viewed articles and tutorials explaining common statistical methods, statistical programming, data visualization, and more. Library data science projects: The Library has increasing needs for data science expertise to analyze its own data, prepare new open-source materials, and collaborate on projects with other groups. StatLab contributes to these projects, and Associates will be brought in as new projects develop. Associates will be paid hourly at $24/hour for up to 10 hours a week for 15 weeks each semester, with the possibility of project-based work over the summer. Within RDS, StatLab assists with a wide portfolio of quantitative research and contributes to data science education through consultations, collaboration, and training around data science and applied statistics; common challenges and needs include data wrangling and cleaning, analysis and visualization, and statistical inference.
