Roanoke County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for Instructional Assistant positions for the school year 2024-25. This position is full-time, eligible for benefits. Position is on the RCPS Pay Plan Grade 112.
Position Description/Job Summary: Perform responsible human support and paraprofessional work assisting classroom teachers or other professionals to achieve instructional objectives, assisting students with special needs with achieving established goals and with personal care and mobility.
Elementary Schools are 186-day contract; 6.83 hrs/day.
Secondary Schools are 186-day contract; 7.33 hrs/day.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks: The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.
• Assists classroom teacher in performing specific duties as assigned.
• Undertakes specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional objectives.
• Works with individuals or small groups to reinforce material introduced by the teacher.
• Provides programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher, therapist, or pathologist.
• Assists with large group activities.
• Escorts students to special classes and therapy.
• Guides independent study and other work assigned by teacher.
• Reports student problems to the teacher and assists with student problems.
• Assists student's mobility needs; assist with loading and unloading buses.
• Assists with breakfast, lunch, snack, clean-up, lavatory, clothing, personal hygiene, and wash-up routines.
• General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the teaching of special education population.
• Ability to maintain files and information.
• Ability to deal effectively with special education students and teachers.
• Skilled in the use of classroom and instructional equipment
• Ability to operate audio visual, standard office, work, and data processing equipment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students, and other support staff.
• Additional training may be required.

• Performs multiple, highly complex technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
• Possesses strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Perform related work as required.
• Reassignment may occur at any time throughout/end of the school year based on the student needs and changes in enrollment.
Education and Experience:
• Minimum high school diploma or GED Equivalent.
• A minimum of two (2) years college experience OR successfully completed ParaPro Assessment is required at Title I schools.
• Experience working with children is preferred.
