Roanoke County Public Schools is currently seeking applicants for Part-Time Non-CDL Driver for the 2024-25 school year. This position is Part-time, 188 days, 5 hours/day, eligible for benefits. This position is on RCPS Pay Plan Grade 113.
Position Description/Job Summary:
The Non CDL Driver is responsible for safely operating the county vehicle according to a set daily schedule. The individual must ensure that the vehicle is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, maintain order and security in the vehicle and obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct. It is critical for Non CDL Driver to operate the vehicle in a safe manner.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
• Operate the vehicle in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life
• Operate the vehicle in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant Legislation, policies and procedures
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks
• Clean the vehicle
• Ensure the vehicle is safely and securely stored
• Advise the garage of any requirements for maintenance or repairs
• Maintain schedules and maintain order on the vehicle
• Pick up and deliver students as per a set schedule
• Ensure students are aware of rules and responsibilities as passengers
• Maintain order and discipline on the vehicle
• Make note of any behavioral or disciplinary problem
• Practices confidentiality at all times
• Maintains an attitude of mutual respect and courtesy
• Communicates effectively orally and in writing
• Reacts positively to constructive criticism and suggestions
• Demonstrates initiative and motivation
• Works independently or collaboratively with others in a wide variety of circumstances

• Possesses strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Minimum Job Requirements/Qualifications:
The Non CDL Driver is required to have a valid Virginia Driver's License. A Criminal Records Check will be required.
Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
• Must have a valid Driver's License for 5 years.
• Have personal or professional experience with basic childcare.
• Be able to comply with a background check as required.
• Have good verbal communication skills and visual ability to observe children.
• Be able to fulfill responsibilities under pressure, including during emergencies.
